Help with Shark ID

So after an hour of fighting this guy out of the kelp, I pull up the weirdest lookin yellowtail ever... Anybody know what species this is?

http://imgur.com/jhoA4ca

bonus right as he cut the line http://imgur.com/QUEIH9X

Wish I could have gotten a good picture of his topside but he cut my line right after this shot. He was mostly smooth grayish brown with a few little freckles on top of his head... soupfin maybe?

Thanks for the help!

Sorta silvery grey basic looking "shark" body? No stripes or spots? Pretty sure it was Soup fin. did you hook it on the bottom or up on the surface? They do come to the top but usually stay near the bottom. They can be common around SD but you don't see them caught often. Fish big baits near the kelp in winter and you might see a 7 gill. Real odd shark. Mike.

Thanks guys! Got him on the bottom with a mostly dead bonito, soupfin seems likely, I'll tell people he was about 8 feet long and 250 pounds...
