Best way to mount transducer? Hull vs scupper?

I have a cheap Lowarance X-4 ff, I also recently purchased the Lowarance scupper mount. But after installing, the transducer sticks out of scupper more than I anticipated. (I have an old cobra fish and dive I know it will be a problem during transport. So now I'm back to square one...

Any tips or insight will be much appreciated

Thanks Guys,

Gabe

I too have a Cobra fish n dive. I have my transducer mounted inside the hull and it has worked great for me. I did not want to mount it through the scupper because it would stick out to far and might get damaged and I think that is what you are thinking as well.

By the way I have a humminbird 383c ff.

Ok thanks for the input, exactly what i was thinking. I should've mounted inside hull to start with but my laziness took over.

That looks like it might be good on a lake. I tried a lowrance arm for side scan and found it was a very poor solution. Fixed transducers are better for offshore steady picture.

I just installed my Lowrance on my kayak last night. Bought a transducer mount and ram ball for it off of Amazon for $45. Easy install and works great in water, also moves out of way easily when traveling, catching fish or removing kelp from it. I had tried the thru hull style first and it didn't work for me. I like the transducer arm mount because you can readily see it to ensure all is good with it

Thinking on getting one of these when I get my elite chirp 5 with 50/200 transducer.

This question is asked often.

GO to Lowes, spend a couple $ on plumbers putty, mount the deucer in hull.

Cheapest and easiest way. Good luck.

^ I agree with plumbers putty/duct seal.

Just make a pancake and sqyish your ducer into it and done. Also can be adjusted on the water in 1 minute.

Sensitivity is fine

I tried the electrical putty and it didn't work for me. I mounted it on the flat recessed area made for transducers, but for some reason it did not work. Formed the putty tight around and over transducer with it setting flush against kayak bottom. No reading after installed. Oh well, transducer arm with ram mount definately did the trick. Happy now.

If you plan on using down imaging, you may want to mount outside of yak.

I have a cheap Hummingbird portable, I just stick the suction cup to the transom. It works for me right now as I can move it to whatever I'm fishing from.
