Cool! That is a nice little surprise. I hope I have that kind of luck tonight. Since a lot of these yt have been caught halibut fishing, the joke about fishing for yt to catch halibut is true!

Brad did get a nice beav fo sho. Congrats again.

I went south for a minitail ~8# and then quickly got buried by a big ol' tail in the bull kelp area. Full speed with drag buttoned and he still buried his ass to the point of no return.

Otherwise, very quiet, no current, lots of detritis on the surface, just a short window around 8:30 that lit up and quieted back down.

Nice Brad!

my only day to fish this week, did not want to waste it halibut fishing, so I wasted it yt fishing

Catching halibut on the flyline sounds like my kind of halibut fishing. I hate lead on the line.

I was actually doing the ball bounce thing with 2 other rods but left the big greenie out with a shitload of line for kicks. Guess he swam down.

Flyline took a chirp, then went silent. Thought I was hung on salad until it started headshaking. Once I got vertical with it I started to think it might be flat, but I was still quite surprised when I saw it. Definitely a fun way to get one.

Got it gaffed and stringered no prob, then as I cut the gills it went ballistic and fell over the side. The stinger/stringer I've been demo-ing from Jack Graham of "Lines In" products saved this fish. After that I beat it senseless with the backside of my gaff. No more wiggles after that.

Beautiful morning was otherwise quite mellow. Great way to start the day. Time to start frying.
