Had a very difficult time making bait today.

I surfed at the pier this weekend and there was a ton of anchovy popping over there. Pretty good bet there'd be mac's as well.

I made plenty of bait, but had to keep chasing the bait balls. I kept getting one and the bait ball was gone. I kept turning around and going over the same areas until I found the bait ball again. I kept not wanting to leave the sabiki in too long once I could feel the bites. In the past if you wait too long you end up with a tangled mess on the sabiki that takes half an hour to fix. Ended up getting 12 good size Spanish. Tried flylining and some near the bottom. Only caught 1 bonito and only lost 3 to sea lions. Released the rest near the condo, same area I had caught then in.

Talking

The only Yellow I saw landed was by a guy trolling a Crocodile, using 20 lb gear and having the rod brake while trying to land the Yellow. I think he said that it was his first ever Yellow on a kayak. With that kind of luck he should buy some Lotto tickets.

I usually cut the sabiki and split the pack into two 3 hook rigs. After, I add a swivel to the area where I cut the line this way I have less hooks to deal with while making bait.
