MPAs

I used to use FishAlerts app to see the MPAs but they are not available anymore. I just found out that Google Earth shows the MPAs now. Good to know if the fog obscures the flag pole at LJ, or other places where landmarks are not as easy to use.

You probably added them. I don't see them on my app.

When I looked it up it seems you can download the file from DFG.

There are definitely different ways to end up with additional layers on Google Maps, and I'm not quite clear how it all works.

Here's one that I've found that I zoomed in to LJ (which gets reflected in the URL). If you zoom back out it has quite a number of spots all over SoCal offshore/inshore. See if that works - not sure if it's all contained in the URL or if it has other info stored on my end (eg cookies or has detected a google login, etc).

I just tried it on mobile and had issues in the app, but worked in Safari, though I Didn't have location data.

There's also a map here that I've used out on the water with phone location to check position:

On the other hand, if you can't see the flag pole, chances are you can't be seen either. Boundaries could become more elastic ;-)

Excuse #2: "I got lost in the fog"

Excuse #3: "As humans, we are not perfect"

Excuse #4: "I'm not certified to fly my kayak IFR, and since I lost visual reference to landmarks, I was trying to take depth measurements with the only thing I had available: my fishing line"

That must be it.

I did load something from DFG, I just didn't realize it overlaid onto Google Earth.
Mr. Nice Guy, I like your last excuse of using your line to find the depth. That one might just get you out of a ticket for being very unique, and it would probably confuse the heck out of the warden.

Obfuscation with enthusiastic confidence and an air of authority (while being respectful, of course) is a good psyop tactic. But alas, I doubt it would work in this case.
