DP YT 08-30-15

I decided to stop lurking and post my first report on here I've had my yak for over a year and a half now but nothing significant to report until recently.

My first yellowtail was caught in LJ last Thursday. Bait was hard to make but I made due. I met a couple of cool guys from the forum out there.

I was still so pumped from my first YT catch and decided last minute to fish Sunday. I heard LJ launch was closed, so I decided to stay local and try out DP. Made a bunch of mini-macks. Got my second YT in 80ft of water. I got another bite but pulled the hook. Left the bite since my buddy got sea sick and I didn't want to be alone in choppy water in case something went wrong.
Lots of bonito out there right now too.

From what I saw from a distance, a boat looked like they were catching small ones under 5lbs. They kept harassing my macs.

Got a 9lb bonito there at 55ft depth on Fri - never saw one that big and it put up a helluva fight. Large 8+ft HH was following us - lots bigger than the 5-6ft models we have seen in DP the last several weeks.
Congrats to ptn on very nice YT and thanks for lip smacking pics.

Shhh, don't tell anyone or they'll close your beaches as well.

Hmmm... I like catching bonita of that size, but I also like not playing with aggressive HH. Thanks for the heads up.

A fishless report within a fish report:

I went yesterday. All I could find were bonita. easly c&r'd 7. some of these were inhaling the bait and hook, i'm sure a couple died. the biggest was 5lbs gut hooked towards the end of the day so kept it.

My new shark deterrent policy is to keep no dead fish in areas where it washes out into the sea leaving a scent slick. I'm bagging all dead bait (lobster season) and stowed fish below deck using a wet towel to keep cool.

NO sharks bothering me tuesday.
