I'm Going Offshore and May Need 1 More

Next friday (deponding on the bite and conditions) I'm loading up two kayaks on my whaler and heading offshore insearch of paddies, schooling dolphin, ect.... Plan is to drop in on my kayak and fish. When I dry load my gear on, there might be room for one more. That way there can be two fishing in kayaks an one manning/fishing in the boat. Sounds like fun? I'm going to use my mini-x and x-factor.

I was off shore yesterday. Put the wood to the YFT at the 302. I suggest you do not drop your yak in the middle of the mess that's out there now. The swell is up and the current is ripping. You will need some one to stay on the skiff.

The biggest problem are the nut jobs, myself included, chasing the f'n flippers around.

You would be a speed bump.

If you want someone to go with you, take one yak and swap back and forth.

Send me a pm if you want me to drive your skiff out. If you have radar we can launch at 0200-0300 and be at the inner banks early before the rest of the nut jobs arrive.

good luck and be careful.

BTW: when catching tuna on the yak, don't reach out with your gaff and stick it... trust me . Even the smallest football's generate a lot of torque.

worsening conditions

+1 Ditto on aquachico....

We just got back in (1:45 start at SI) from the
182 area. The wind is from the SW, and the swell
was 3-5'. We could only spot 2 patties. Scratched
4 dodos off one. Ran over many porpoise for nada.

We called it at 10:30 and made back for the barn.

Not good yaking conditions.

Check wind conditions, if wanting to fish paddys. If not, wind does'nt mean a thing, time to go...

Hi Tim,
For these type of trips (smaller PB mothership) I would suggest only using a mini X or a tarpon 100 (smaller the better) instead of bringing the X-factor which is way big. My recent PB mothership trip I had a tarpon 140 and a mini X and the tarpon never hit the water only the mini X did. Good luck on your outing and make sure the paddy is holding (at least marks) before droping the kayaks in the water. Also make sure you work the far outside areas of the kelp at least 100 yards. Go upwind/current and float by the kelp. If you catch a fish on kelp and the bite shuts down be patient trying different methods to restart. Don't give up on spot just because you are catching only doritos. There are probably bulls in waiting and it may require several passes especially on the outer edges.
Good luck,
Jimmy

I recommend using the pool noodles. They take up less space than kayaks, and they're much more novel.
