11/27 Counting Sheep

Launched at Big Rock Saturday morning and went North to the canyon but
it was slow for everyone. Couple sand and calico bass. Lots of birds and
bait around. A perfect kayaking day - calm seas with no wind and 70
degrees with sunshine. Water temp was about 60.

Took a tour outside around the 20 fathom line to South LJ area stopping
on bait spots top and bottom but no biters. Fired the iron a few times just
for kicks. Heavy downhill current really picked up from the NE and layed
the kelp down. Still no biters outside, time for plan C. I headed for shelter
in calmer waters, with surface kelp at around 50' deep where huge volume of
bait was in taking refuge.

It was a fun wide-open bite on the bottom for some nice calicos, mixed
brown and grass rockfish and a 6 and 8.5 lb sheephead. Really thought I
had something much bigger for a minute. Lost a couple other nice fish
that came unbuttoned. Released a bunch of stuff. Overall a fun morning -
I love the options out there in Fall!

@RAYMO - Here you go: http://g.co/maps/dfm2d

The guy in the truck is kindly pointing to the "Big Rock Launch
Walkway", it's located just north of the end of Winamar St.

(I see people carry their kayaks down the long white Palomar Avenue
staircase to the sand, but I'm not sure why, maybe they like the
excercise. )

There are three wooden steps at the end of the "Launch Walkway" that get
you to a rock ledge just above the sand. Then another 5 ft. drop down to
the sand. I launch my Revolution all the time, by myself, rolling it on wheels
to the wooden steps. Remove the wheels, lock the wheels to the green fence
until I return from fishing.

As of Jan 1, this launch will be INSIDE the new South LJ MLPA closure
area, so just word of caution on that.

Hopefully your honey hole will still be open.

Personally, in this day and age where it's the 'my wave' mentality, I think it is incredibly awesome that you are not only willing to share your spot, but show others where it is and invite others as well.

Kudos to you, wish we could have joined you before the (gasp) potential closure comes about.

Nice goats by the way...here's hoping that this whole debauchery blows like trade winds...
