La Jolla halibut

I have been a member of this site for a little while and I want to thank all of the contributors who spend the time to report and inspire the rest of us to go fishing. I love to read all of the reports and now feel that it is my turn to contribute too. I fished la jolla last sunday. I trolled a rapala around outside the kelp for nada. Except donating one to a small mako who I saw jump a couple times before biting me off. Fearing the skunk I headed inside and drifted a mackerel for this 36 inch 16 pound halibut. I also threw some plastics for some small calicos. It was nice to get back out on the water and I was lucky enough to take some steaks home for dinner too.

There is something super thrilling about seeing a big 'but come up. Nice fish!

Nice catch, its always a good surprise to see a halibut come up instead of a sand bass.

Saw you on the water. We launched at about the same time (my mango fish'n dive). Glad your perserverance paid off for you. I was off the water around 10:30 with nothing to show for it (but the always good experience of time on the water). Lots of bait, but no love from the larger kind.

I took that pic. Looks like the curse of the thumb has struck again. Sorry buddy. I'm known for it when it comes to cameras. YOu should have seen Brandon wrestling with that thing in the yak. That was one nasty hai who went down fighting.
