Finally.
After 3 seasons of trying to hunt one down I finally got what I was after.

Water and weather was perfect. Went out mainly looking for whales.

One huge bird ball and a shiny Kroc later, pulled this bad boy out.

Kayaking is fun again lol

Nice work! I went out yesterday looking for yellowtail and saw only whales! Backwards thought process... Almost got submarined by a big grey; it came right along side of me out and down about 4 feet away.

What a coincidence!

I took a friend out, who has never been on an ocean kayak, the same day strictly for whale watching. At the last minute, i deciced to bring a couple of poles, just in case.

landed back at the beach the with a 30lb YT. I saw you with your YT as someone took your picture.

We dind't see any whales that day but heard there were some yesterday.
Whales and no more YT.

New plan of attack, go whale watching, but bring poles.
Congrats to all of you lucky whale watchers, especially you drunkentiger, on your success after a 3 year pursuit.

Way to keep your head in the game!

And don't beat yourself up too much---that's an average statistic, really. The first one is always the hardest. I was watching you land that bad boy; I could tell you were anxious to land it. And pumped. Congrats!

Yeah I was. I was just worried if my gear could handle it since its only ever been tested on calicos, sheepheads, bonito, etc...

It definitely made my week and was nice to have excitement back into kayak fishing. Have become jaded catching smaller fish over the years.

The only bad part was the nonstop paddle back to shore to get it on ice. haha

but cant complain with all the sashimi i have been eating.

Penn 309M with 35 pound on some cheapy penn stick & a Avet MXJ 30 pound on another cheap penn stick.

Of course it hooked up to the 309M.

Now that Im done with college I can afford to move up on reels but the 309 hasnt let me down yet. lol

Congrats on a whale sized yellow! It's always the best on your days when you expect the least, and they turn out to be the greatest! Keep at it, kayak fishing never stopped being fun, and it never will.
