New Avet Reel Question?

Hey guys. I picked up a new SX the other day, and after spooling line on it I went to set my drags and it seems like it goes from 0-100 with one notch forward. At strike the drag is where I want it (compared to my other SX) but when I notch it just a tiny bit forward it feels like full drag and I can't even pull line off it with my hand.

Am I supposed to grease the drags before using it? Just curious. I have another SX that I bought used and the thing works great, wanted another one so I bought new this time. Thanks in advance!

Did you back off the drag adjustment knob?

Yeah not a huge avet fan at all especially for kAyAk fishing . There is not really a sweet spot on bait clicker when trolling bait unless you back way down on drag tension. But your adjusting but the right way don't put grease on the drag washers you'll ruin them

AND...Do not put the reel into, "FULL" while the drag setting is tight otherwise you will crush the pinion bearing. If you crush the pinion bearing you will know right away...

Haha I know how to adjust the drag setting. I had the drag pretty backed off to where I could pull line out at strike mode, when I notch it forward just a little I will not be able to pull line off. With my other SX going from strike to full is not nearly as big of a difference as this new reel.

FYI

After I got my MXJ, I called up Avet to see if greasing the drag washers would void the warranty because I had read something about it on another forum. I got an emphatic "Yes" from one of the reps. He's probably been asked that question a few times, lol.

Also, I bought an SX 2 speed for my son for his birthday recently, and I noticed the same issue with his drag that you're having. I set it for 7 pounds at strike, but when I pushed it a bit past, it clamped down quite a bit. But I haven't noticed the same issue on my MXJ.

I'm wondering if the SX just needs a little working in. If you figure out anything, would love an update.

Drag curves different for every lever drag reel. Tolerances in machining probably arent that tight. Id grease the drags, break it in on a couple fish and try again.
