Spooled in DP

Fished DP Sunday afternoon. No anchovies at the bait barge again this week, just sardines with maybe one or two anchovies mixed in. I heard someone say that there will be no more anchovies for the winter, we'll see.

It was a bit choppy and windy, but not too bad. There was only 3 or 4 other kayak fishers that I saw.

I paddled into the wind towards the headlands and found some kelp beds along the way. I fished the kelp for a while and got a few bites but pulled up only half my baits each time.

Started paddling into the wind again looking for more kelp but it seemed a hard paddle. I was complaining about how hard the Stealth is to paddle upwind when I noticed my pole in the rod holder behind me was bent over, and the reel was just about spooled. I spent the next 15 minutes backtracking, untangling kelp, and retrieving about 200 yards of line that was caught up in the previous kelp bed I was at

Well no fish on Sunday but I got a good workout

Funny, the only bait we can get in San Pedro is Anchovies (cause the seiners don't need to change their Squid nets and can scoop them within earshot of the barge). Half baits are usually Sealions (they learn where the hooks are). Most fish that could cut them in half will usually swallow them whole and cut your line.
