Pelagic stingray

My last report was short so I added to the end of it instead of starting a new one. Scroll about half way down until you see June 27, 2020.

This was a wild catch. Not sure it was a good idea though, haha.

Talking

You mean at that point, it didn't start to beat you and the kayak badly! The ones I've seen close are like Hali's once at the surface, watch out.

No, I let it go.

I've been known to eat fish other people don't like, but I've never had the urge to try a bat ray because processing the fish is going to be a ton of work.

Skate wings is a thing, but if you're going to try it, try it with a smaller model.

Whatever you do, it won't be worse than eating an opaleye

Lol, what's wrong with opaleye? I took a big one home once, and it was great.

+1. I will definitely bring home opaleye from the reef on the regular.
Also-in doing research on scallops, I recently learned that if you’ve eaten them in a restaurant, you’ve probably had some form of ray cut into scallops shaped pieces and served as such

Pelagic rays might be the tastiest of rays considering where they spend their time and what they eat.

I love OpoBass.... use to catch them off the rocks as a kid on muscle or green peas. Not a fish for fillets, but mighty fine baked whole. Stingrays are a spoiler -- Hard fighting disappointment when you get it in.
