Campo Las Encantadas review.

For those who are coming for the first time, and a trip down memory lane for those who were there.
If you like to be surprised by not knowing what to expect, you should not continue reading!

1-Here is a map of the Baja with our route highlighted with yellow line.

The town that is divided by the border line has two names.
At the Mexican side, it is called Mexicali. In the US side it is called Calexico. Whose ever side you are on, they get the first billing!

2-We stop for “breakfast” here. Cheap and tasty, prepared right in front of you.

3-This was the first sighting for me of the Gulf of California or Sea of Cortez. Whichever name you prefer.

4-We should get there around 2:00 PM.
As you can see, it was eighty eight degrees at 4:30 PM and dry last time.

5-We are at Campo Las Encantadas, which is about 10 mile north of Gonzaga Bay.
Looking south toward the Punta Bufeo, which apparently means--- The point of killer whale ---in Spanish.

6-This newly built structure which resembles a garage is used as a sleeping area as well as storage.

6A-The slab where my tent is located is now the new bathroom.

7-If you don’t catch one of these; you better quit fishing for life!

8-If you ever wondered why this fish is called Sierra (saw in Spanish), check out the teeth.
Notice the distinctive yellow dots on the body. Almost like a trout.
A wire leader is a must for targeting these fish. I also changed the treble hooks with special owner hooks.

9-You may land one of these as Mike did.
Mike landed and released this nice Cabrilla toward the end of our Panga ride.

10-We could arrange to fish from one of these. It was $50.00 each since we were a group.

11-Guess why this fish is called an orange mouth? Another good reason for wire leaders.

12-Hope to see our fearless leader take a well-deserved rest on his comfortable chair often.

13-A good pair of binoculars are good to have to scope the bay.

14-This is where we will be having meals during restaurant nights.

15-You may even catch one of these like Travis did from the shore none the less.

16-Let us hope we don’t have to deal with winds like this. So far forecast looks great.

I wonder what the wind force was at that time.

17-If you go to the actual Gonzaga Bay; there is a nice hotel and a restaurant with a bar. There are couches to use while watching TV on the lower level.

18-On the way to the hotel in Gonzaga Bay, there is a full stocked market with land line. My cell phone did not work there.

19-Huddling around a campfire to keep warm and swap jokes and discuss many topics.

Please NO political discussion to ruin the trip.

20-We even had Smorfs made on open fire. A running joke.

21-I will have the Backgammon set with me if anybody is interested.

Looking very much to meet new friends and see the friends from other trips.

I hope information provided is helpful.

When we went down to Alfonsinas last week the restaurant had something happen down there and the inside bar area and seating is completely under renovation.

They still serve food but it is outside on the patio.

Thanks guys.

Good tip Buddha. Thanks.
The bar looked good to me. We will see what they are doing if I go there.

It was fun playing with you, even though I lost a lot.

finding my way through Mexicali (both directions) is always the challenging part of the trip for me...

STAY in the MIDDLE lane until the right turn for Rio Hardy. Or follow me.

Maybe there was a fire in the bar or something happened because there is nothing there now inside when I was there and it was all blocked off and locked up.

I had a lot of fun playing backgammon with you too! I bought a large backgammon board for the last trip and the guys I played with stopped playing with me because they were tired of losing. I would have traded better fishing for me instead of winning on backgammon though!

More likely a grease fire in the kitchen.

I wonder what the guests do for food?

I would like to go and fish and have lunch/etc.

Lets see what happens.
