8/23 south La jolla

Launched at Big Rock about 6 AM. Wind was already up out of the south, but the surf was small. Trolled a sabiki and a swimbait. found not takers on the sabiki, but kept getting stopped on calicos on the swimbait. good thing I brought a few as they were chewing the tails off of em.

By the time I got out to the spot, there were 2 sporties, 40 pbers and 4 other kayakers. Nobody was going bendo and the sporties headed to NW around 8 AM. The YT came through around 8:30. There were alot of diving birds on the sporties residual chum. I saw some flying differently, like birds do over a school of fish, higher and watching and waiting. Sure enough once under the birds, I hooked up on the 5"smelt pattern on the 1oz leadhead. By the time I was at color the 2 boats just south of me are bendo. Started throwing surface iron at conspicuous birds. Had one of those bump and hand slip off the handle moments The rest of the morning seemed to be a slow pick of fish caught on slow trolled or drifted sardines for the pbers. I headed in around 11 content with dinner and my first Big Rock yellowtail. Note my attire, first time fishing in jeans as I forgot my shorts at homelol

Congrats Andy. Good to see a fish coming back to a beach other than the shores .
