Bait concerns this time of year

Just out of curiosity, given this time of year, has anyone had trouble making bait out of La Jolla recently? Or has the fishing in the area relying on more frozen bait ie squid, macs, being the water is getting colder?

The roomy and I were out last weekend, we drove down from ventura. I don't think I've ever seen so much bait in one place before..... perfect size macs were everywhere on the surface
