$1.5 Million in Pot Seized in Remote Catalina Cove

SANTA CATALINA ISLAND (AP) -- A beachcomber in a lonely Santa Catalina Island cove wasn’t looking for shells. Authorities said he was guarding 1,500 pounds of marijuana.

Island Hideaway -- Sheriff’s deputies discovered 31 bales of marijuana -- and a man guarding them -- in an isolated cove.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies seized 31 bales of pot May 17 and arrested a Mexican citizen on suspicion of possessing and transporting marijuana, Capt. Jeff Donahue said May 18. A sheriff’s deputy and a park ranger spotted the man at remote Little Harbor, on the west side of the island.

I went down to P.V. Cove two weeks ago. They had a 22' panga on the rocks. No one was around just alot of wet clothes and black plastic bag. They said it was smugglers. They did not catch them.
