If you have to wait for your passport, I would highly recommend applying for SENTRI card as well.

You know I did not think about that when I posted above.
I checked my original application, and it asked for the passport number. Looks like you need the passport first. |

Global entry may be faster to obtain and there are more places that are available to interview. Many say you can get it faster and easier than sentries with the same benefits.
