frozen mack

First - my thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by the earthquake in Japan. Unbelievable.

....

A few months ago I got some macks, kind of big and thought I'll save them for lobster - which I never did. They sat in the freezer. Wife recently started complaining about a smell in the freezer. Ok...ok... I'll take care of it (but I don't think it was the frozen macks...).

I set out from LJ yesterday teaming up with dmyaker, and frozen macks stowed away. After a few stops, while soaking one line, I decided to get rid of the frozen macks I brought with. I grabbed one of my bigger hooks, and snapped it onto my line that has a steel leader, and bait one of the macks. I toss that in and while looking at the frozen mack just floating there I'm thinking this isn't going to work. My last torpedo sinker is soaking, so I need to rig up some way to tie on a sliding egg sinker to the line with the mack. I use a made up knot that probably doesn't exist in any book, and toss it all in to drop that mack to the bottom.

Not too much longer, there's a bite, well, no maybe I'm stuck on some rocks, the reel clicks so more, I figure I'm drifting a bit and the line is getting pulled out. So I grab my rod and I feel something is pulling it. No more than 10 minutes I see this:

Now struggling holding the camera and working this sevengill I hand the camera over to dmyaker for some good shots:

I decided not to even try to remove the hook, or even let it get anywhere near my fingers or my legs. I'll let DizzyFish in the UK do that.

Thanks dmyaker for heading out with me, having your knife quickly accessible and letting this one go and for taking some great pics.
