Hi Erick, the good spots are generally where the structure is - kelp, boiler rocks, undersea mounts, hard bottoms, reefs, etc., etc.

Someone's personal "good spot" is, well, usually pretty personal!

What type of fish are you looking for?

Sounds reasonable. I haven't fished for any of those, so I can't really help you.

I never fished either of those areas, but generally speaking if you can find structure you will find fish. Rockfish tend to like hard bottom so look for that. I lack experience with Halibut, but hopefully someone can help you out with that.

I would take you around

And show you " The Spots " , but then The Locals would pound me and probably slash my tires.

Look for rocky structure 60-200 Ft deep. Good Luck.

Can't speak to Santa Monica, but Malibu is fun to fish. Mind your launch and watch for protected zones near Point Dume and Zuma. There's been some good posts about Malibu in the past too.

Here's the protected zone: https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.a...95&inline=true
