Getting Threshed

This was totally on accident. I had my line in real tight cause we got near some kelp. My bait got slapped out of the water just 15 ft behind the yak!

Good half hour fight, Darn thing started doin circles as I pulled him up. Tarpon 160s dont just spin on a dime let me tell you!

We let it go, and I am glad we did, as we got caught is a strong current going south, and it took about 3 hours to get back....I mean if you stopped and sneezed, you lost 5 minutes of paddling!

Thanks to The Kid on the assist! AGAIN!

Good on you on that release

As to the current sometimes you can beat it by paddling inside the kelp and working back inside. It'll also get you out of the crosscurrent slop if the winds up. Saved my ass a few times on long days.

Pretty cool story and pic.

Up here in Monterey we pick up an occasional Thresher when fishing for salmon but usually a couple miles out in deeper water, but I'd be interested to know if anyone ever targets them up here in close, just outside the kelp.

Do the freedivers down south ever come across them while hunting WSB?

Cool catch!!
Great pic.
Cool colors on the T.

I need to be educated on something. Many of you are praising him for releasing the thresher. Is it because of the preservation of sharks, or is it because this one appears to me as a young pup, not sure?
