First, nice job getting the pic! and congrats on the publish.
Just for clarification:
Quote:
I launched my kayak as the sun was rising, and prepared my paddle to the outside of Newport Harbor. There were hundreds of dolphins and birds crashing all around me as the baitfish were being chased. I quickly caught a few small mackerel, and pinned one onto my heaviest rod setup: a 7'8" Shikari rod paired with a small Okuma Cedros 250 reel containing only 40# spectra.

As I made it outside of the harbor, I dropped the mackerel into the water and let it swim downward. Suddenly, my spool starts to spin fast. I closed my bail and my rod became fully bent.
Were you using a Cedros spinning upside down? Or a Cedros 250 level-wind and you meant "put it in gear" rather than closed the bail?
