Two firsts at LJ 6/9

Ditto on what a couple other threads said. Not bad going out and making bait, quite a few yakkers bright and early. Water 65.5. Fly line and trap rig running about 80 ft when a dog starts eyeing me. I start to reel in my fly line and WHAM Reel starts zipping, thumb down to slow it tighten the drag a bit this is a big one and i'm just going to take my time. Butt of the rod under the butt of my butt start working it me gaining only to have it ripped back off the reel. No Idea what it is. I know it's not a butt, that would make too many butts in the soup, not a BSB, fighting way too much Suddenly the thing comes out of the water about 50 yards dead ahead and thrashes the air with it's thresher tail. Fought it for another couple minutes till it bit the line in two. What a thrill!
After that it was quiet. Talked to Mitchel for a few on my way back in. Got close to the beach and it's not looking so good. Surf has picked up a bit. I didn't lay my poles down but put a bungee around them to the box. Rode a couple of nice waves, getting closer...almost there...turned a little ...dug in with my paddle...in the water. Under my Yak, Grabbing whatever i can feel. Get out from under, the president of HOW (forget his name) is out there grabbing my yak for me. Flipped it upright and all of my poles are there and none broken. Mirage drive tethered. I think everything got recovered except a second hand fillet knife that cut me last week (good riddance). So that was my first crash at LJ out of 7-8 times I've launched there. They were saying I wasn't the first to crash today, and I watched a PA bite it while I was gathering my stuff.
Good day on the water. Life is good and fishing from a kayak makes it gooder.

it only took one time of me flipping on my outback and loosing a setup to remind myself that EVERYTHING needs to be stored, leashed, tethered, tied, glue and bolted down. After that initial yard sale the only other thing that I've lost was a hat and a cushion.
