Costa Rica (Non-Kayak)

My Dad had been planning a big trip for our family for the last few months to Costa Rica. We spent time up in the mountains by the Arenal Volcano and then time down at Playa Conchal near Tamarindo.

I had a blast and brought a small travel rod and lexa300 with me to try from the beach which based on what I read before going on the trip seemed like it could be really productive. Didn't have any luck in the rivers up in the mountains but I ended up catching a big Jack Crevel (funny thing is in CR they call them 'jurel' just like YT in mexico.) Also caught a decent rooster which i have some shitty footage of down at the beach.

Went out on a nice boat with the pops and brother for a half day too which was awesome. Enjoy the pics. Pura Vida!

Here is a raw clip of releasing the rooster i got from the beach...

Looks like a really fun trip! Thanks for the report!

Anytime you can hook up to a rooster is special! By far my favorite fish in the ocean.

I was out in Quepos in March , lots of fun. Did you meet any Tica's while you were out there?

Woooo thanks guys definitely a great trip with the whole family.. been around 7-8 years since we had done a trip with all 5 of us. Will for sure remember those two fish off the beach forever.

John! First Toro for me! The locals didn't know what I was talking about when I said toro thats how I found out they call it jurel there.... so bizarre.

All-in-all it was a relatively slow day on the boat, we had high expectations.... Ya that's a barracuda when I first saw color (stripes) I yelled wahoo but uh ya i was wrong haha such heavy gear honestly was just a steady crank not super playful.

Couple days before we went they had multiple sails and couple big dorado.. oh well!
