CAL TIP Works...

Anyone that’s been launching in Redondo at the hand launch dock in the last month or so has probably had to deal with the kayak or inflatable that was chained up on the dock...you may have seen the floats from this same poacher in the harbor...I’d had enough of this fool today, so I pulled up one of his floats and found this trap...
I called CALTIP and talked to a lady in Sacramento and reported the poaching to her...
I didn’t think I get such a quick response from our local Warden Lyford...he’s been trying to catch this guy for a while so he was happy to have some fresh info and a photo and a license number for the poachers vehicle...
About 6pm this evening I got a follow up call from the Redondo Harbor Patrol thanking me for helping them apprehend this Bozo...the DFW wrote him a few citations and confiscated his boat...
On a side note...
The Redondo music festival has taken up most of the parking lot and launching is a PITA...so my advice is to stay away till next Wednesday or Thursday once they’ve wrapped up all the tents and stages and fencing

We did the same thing in mission bay jetty.....

I was coming in from free diving in my kayak when I met up with a couple of guys I new, swimming the opposite way Paul and Jeff were snorkeling in the middle of the jetty we met. As we were coming in all of us snorkeling together Jeff spotted a small cage trap and dove down and got the trap.it was full of short lobster, don't think the trap was even big enough for a legal size to get in.
Jeff freed all the short lobster and since I was the only one with a kayak I took the trap and we all met at the lifeguard office building and turned the trap in to an officer. We pointed to where we found the trap. The office said they come in at 2am in the morning and they are hard to catch. Hopefully when the guy comes back to get his trap a game warden catches him.

Hopefully that tweaker is gone for good. Getting tired of him parking his van and boat trailer at the hand launch all night.

I called them once at lake arrowhead when we saw a couple idiots spearing large mouth bass. They were out there quick.

so interesting you mentioned this…2 weekends ago (sat, Sept 4), i was launching my yak from the hand launch at 6:45am and i noticed a mini-van(smh) towing a boat parked near the access road at the hand launch. (between the launch and seaside lagoon). he actually went passed the launch ramp and i was wondering what he was doing and how he was gonna turn around. or i guess back up?? anyway, we unloaded and i reparked my car near Capt Kids (most of the parking lot was roped off due to the festival).
when i walked back, he had turned it around and was headed out. i was shocked but was also wondering what was he doing there!!!
anyway, now i know.
