5/17 Good morning on the yaks in SD Bay

My oldest son Nick (Masta) was dying to get out on the water after getting a cast off his arm a week ago. We thought it best that maybe we should stick to the bay to take it easy on his arm and not have to paddle that much. Met up with Sherm at the launch at 0430. Got set up and the three of us hit the water right at 0500.

Tide was still coming in as we got over to our "Grump Hole". Sure enough they were there and ready to play. My first cast brought up a 17" sandie. Before I could even get him off my hook my other pole goes bendo and I reel in another nice model. Posed for a quick pic from Nick and it was back to the fun. Caught a few more nice ones then I get hammered on the way up using a jerk bait and reeled in my biggest of the day, a fat 19" grump.

Fishing stayed pretty steady like that for about the next hour or so. Then the tide went slack and we had to actually work & scratch for feesh. Caught a few spotties here & there and a few more sandies. Fog came in pretty thick for awhile, moved closer to the rocks so as not to become a plastic speed bump for those heading out. The fog did make for comfortable feeshing, nice & cool.

Called it a day around 10:00 after letting the wind push us back to the launch. Fished the moored sailboats for some more spotties and a sandie.

We all did good even with the tide. Count for me was 16 sandies (all between 14" & 19") & 5 spotties, all C&R'ed, all caught on misc. plastics and Gulp. Nick got his share of sandies and took a few nicer ones home for taco's. Sherm had the multple species day with sandies, spotties, a rattler, and a flattie.

A very fun morning on the water with my son and my wingman.

Peace,

Spyder
