After many attempts and short falls, I'm ready to see the light. It seems as though my presentation is absolutely incorrect and i'm not fishing at the level that I need to be for the elusive YT. So far, I've logged over two years attempting and countless hours setting up rigs, traveling to and from, peddling and sitting, and cursing the fish gods.
My time here an SD is running low, and I am looking for the way ahead, a chance that has eluded me, the chance to say "I won today."
call or text me if you have time or openings in your schedule 360-431-6355 (corey).
Hi Josh,
Steve Snow here. I have been thinking of taking up Kayak fishing for a couple years now, but am reluctant to invest w/o first taking a lesson or two. A couple weeks ago in La Jolla, I was visited briefly w/ a fisherman who was about to launch from the cove. I did not catch his name but he suggested you. As a matter of act, he said he had just recently taken a lesson for you.
By way of background, I used to whitewater kayak -- moderate w/ a good roll. I live in Imperial Valley, so my availability mostly limited to weekends although I could take a day off work if need be. Please let me know. Thanks, Steve
I just started ocean fishing for the first time this week, being a land-locked kid from the midwest until a couple months ago. I also love to cook and saw your post on Yellowtail and it sounds like it's the "lamb" of fish. Looking forward to trying it out, I just have to catch one first. I was wondering if you have ever tried doing anything with mackerel, and if even the chub can being eaten or only jack(spanish). I know it is a strong, oily fish that spoils easily and needs to be prepared the day of. I was planning on playing around and pan-searing a piece just to see what the natural flavor is, even though I've heard it's quite undesirable. Then I was going to soak a filet in milk to mellow out the fishiness and cooking it. Then I was thinking of curing a piece with fresh herbs, salt and sugar such as a gravlax; and canning some in a jar(cooked) with some oil and vinegar. Just wanted to see if you've tried anything. I wanted to try it because I was told it shouldn't be eaten. Aaron
Whats up Josh,
I've read a bunch of your posts man, very impressive...the fishing and the writing. I've picked up a tarpon 160 a few months back and have been hitting la jolla every weekend. Want to step up my game and everyone I've met has spoken very highly of you as a guide. I've got some time off from 6/12-6/17 you available to head out?
