That's pretty cool little setup. Portable set ups make it nice when using others yaks or boats. Especially when you fish the lakes that only allow there rentals on the water.

catchnfish 02-14-2013 04:14 PM

That's sweet, what did you use for the boom?

45user 02-14-2013 04:18 PM

Very nice! I like the idea of portable ff set up!

blitzburgh 02-14-2013 05:07 PM

Looks good Andy!

Iceman 02-15-2013 10:03 AM

I do have em in stock, the first one listed with the diamond mount 1" included. I can swap it out for the wedge mount if needed.

Retail is $48.95, I sell em for $44.95

JeffB 02-15-2013 08:24 PM

Those are pretty cool. Might be something to look into

TCS 02-15-2013 09:10 PM

Iceman
Does that setup have better resolution than a goop mounted transducer?

steveooo 02-15-2013 09:15 PM

Sweet!

Got my wheels turning. Portable from kayak to skiff, plus would be fun to bring up to the sierras to do some ice fishing...:luxhello:

right in the water gives you a little more sensitivity.

YakMedic 02-17-2013 08:42 AM

My kayak quiver is always changing and I only have a FF mounted on my hobie, it would be nice to be able to swap it around to the other yaks.

How does the entire unit mount onto the yak? Does it have a ram mount on the bottom of the battery case to keep it in place?

1" RAM Ball on the bottom is the best I have come up with. I swap it between Hobies using wedge mount in the sail mast fitting. For other kayaks just add the Yakattak track.

Here is my original, I have used this one for a couple years with different head units.

Here is another one I did today, sideways 1120 Pelican side mounted on Geartrac with the Go Pro too. :D

YakMedic 02-17-2013 05:49 PM

That would work perfect, my other boats are Wildy's and they already have the slidetrax built in. I may have to go this route. Thanks for the info Andy:cheers1:

Clean setup! Beats mine. I currently use the wedge mount in the sail mast fitting for my FF, but my transducer is mounted on my rudder and battery box is in hull. Might try yours instead. Just not sure if all would fit on sail mast since I have a Hobie Oasis (tandem). Might get in the way of the person in front. Oh well, FF is the priority! Lol.

Where's your shop, Andy? Do you sell the Pelican box, too?

I tried using mine on the Oasis and it was not ideal with the space between the rear drive and the front seat.

Shop is in Sunset Beach and I do sell the 1120 Pelican cases.

Bummer. Still like the setup though. Might have to lean towards the Geartrac alternative. Just hesitant to drill holes. I'll try to pass by this week. Thanks again, Andy. My name's Troy, by the way. :)

Great idea. Definitely using your idea and will buy from your store. Thanks.

Andy, is the tubing that holds the Transducer sturdy enough for a DI SI system? Also, I assume the extra length of cable is stored inside the box with the battery correct?

FlyFishinYakr 06-13-2013 12:19 AM

AND'S got a demo in his shop on an outback. I opted for a cleaner look by having a 'wet mount' installed, but ANDY'S right, the RAM probably works better :( . Having a little trouble 'dialing in' my unit on the lake  . I hope HOBIE molds in another scupper transducer on the Outback series. I couldn't do mine because I wouldn't be able to use a Hobie bait tank  . (they could have used the seat scupper holes instead!)

Iceman 06-13-2013 06:49 AM

Jimmy, plenty sturdy and yes the extra trans cable is in the box.

That looks much cleaner that what I've been thinking of doing. I just got a SI,DI system and want to make it portable. What size Pelican box is that, I assume Mission Bay has them as well?

I thought the rail was to narrow on a Hobbie for the geartrac, what size is that and will it fit on a Outback?

Iceman 06-13-2013 08:45 AM

here is the 8 inch on Revo 13

Pretty much the same setup I have for my Raymarine Dragonfly. It is great for when I travel.

Nice setup and fish Jim. I took my son fishing on the rental boats at Jennings this last weekend and we thinking it would be great to be able to take the FF with me. So this provides the best way to do it.

Jimmyz123 12-25-2013 06:12 PM

My wife hooked me up with one of these for Christmas. I sent her the link when she asked what I wanted, and BAM! She ordered it. So she helped with OEX's sales this month. :D

Will this work on a Hobie Revolution 13? Do you just stow it in the forward hatch during time in the surf line and then mount once past the wave?

Head unit question: What do you find most folks are using? I'm reading Lowrance and Hummingbird.

I'm leaning toward a FF/GPS combo but am in model-number hell. Are Lowrance 4 and 5 lines as high as you go for a yak? Are the 7s too big or overkill?

I can't answer the Revo 13 question, but I'll be putting mine below deck while launching in the surf on my T15.

I have used Lowrance and Humminbird, both are great in their own respects, it's really more of a personal preference as to controls and functionality. I like the Humminbird line because I think the controls are easier to work, but I know others that would say the same for the Lowrance. I think anything higher than the 5 on Lowrance is overkill for a Kayak. You can find some really nice FF/GPS units for really good prices. BPS has the 6 month pay options, even if they are not advertising it, you can call them and ask for it.
