If yo were really worried about it then just go into some thick kelp. It will make it more difficult for it to maneuver into an optimal position for an attack. Personally I wish I could see one everytime I go out. If I can see him than the dogs can see him and he will be less likely to go for stuff on my line. Well that may be wishful thinking
but i would rather lose a fish to the white than to a dog.
