If yo were really worried about it then just go into some thick kelp. It will make it more difficult for it to maneuver into an optimal position for an attack. Personally I wish I could see one everytime I go out. If I can see him than the dogs can see him and he will be less likely to go for stuff on my line. Well that may be wishful thinking but i would rather lose a fish to the white than to a dog.

strange thing

the other day the dogs acted like he was not there . they kept sunbathing , and then all of a sudden one less dog was around . . and this shark was no gentle giant . he was hungry and agitated .

"HOLY SARDINE" is right. Just find a shark repellant that does not make the sharks go explosive on you

I think I'll keep my 8' push pole with me or buy a longer gaff.
FYI: I don't know about you guys but I bought a titanium scuba knife for emergencies (in case I get "bumped" off my yak and into the water), it straps on nicely over my waders on the calf.
I figure if I go, I'm going down swingin'.
If he comes after me , I'm going to at least try to get a refund!
