Just curious, have you bothered tanking up with live-squid lately and hitting those same stones? Much like your soft plastic, not setting the hook technique (to target the larger rockfish)---I would think using the whole, live squid would target the keepers rather than 6" nibblers, too.
Not to mention, I hear other, larger species like to eat live-squid as well
