Squat Lobster
The Squat Lobster were so thick today that I caught several on the sabiki... The sonar showed huge blankets of them, 10ft thick and extending out hundreds of feet. I have seen these in the warmer waters of Baja but not here. A good omen?

You sure they weren't pelagic red crabs?

There has been tuna crab blanketing the coast for 3-4 months now. All of the islands yellows I am catching are full of them and I'm sure the LJ yellows are too.
I've heard that there is a difference between tuna crab and squat lobsters. Something to do with squat lobsters only being found in Northern California. I could be wrong. |

Call them whatever.
Crabs have evolved (if you believe that) their tail folded up under their bodies. No crabs have articulating tails.
