low tide lobsters - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

i have been having tons of success getting lobsters in a very unique way. My dad and i go out on a minus tide and go dive in about a few feet of water and look under reefs for bugs. It is not deep at all but we get tons of success. I have never seen anybody do this so i am the only guy who dose this.
this is when we went out today at low tide. check the tide chart for this weekend there are very low tides this weekend.

Nice going and great strategy. Some of the biggest lobsters Ive gotten were in 6 feet of water or less they are generally out of reach of the traps.

Tons of nooks and crannies between 9th street and 15th street in del mar and from pill box in SB to the campgrounds in Cardiff where the pickings can be easy esp at extreme low tides like these.

Good job on the bugs, Ryan.

Keep in mind that all the standard rules and regulations apply to low tide buggin' as well : license, size restrictions, limits, and of course - you gotta fill out yer lobster report card each time you go out.

No one else wants to say it, as we all encourage the young ones. But, it does appear that those bugs are on the short side. If not, congratulations.

I was going to say it but I assumed that Pops explained the rules & regulations, I'm sure they're legal.

A couple of other good spots are Bird Rock (8-10 feet at high tide) and Mission Bay Jetty (South) at low tide.

An Abalone hunter got killed this year doing something like that. Kind of a hybrid style in between Diving and shore picking. I guess a set wave came in and he either hit his head or got pinned or just plain worked him. I think he was overweighted too(you need more weight to stay down in 3' feet of water than you would in 15' feet).
I know that scenario isn't as likely here....but just something to think about.
