As You may have surmised from the title of this thread, the conditions in LJ today were far from challenging. It was spectacularly beautiful day on the water. As nice as I have ever experienced. Small surf, light breeze, 75 degrees in the air, 59 in the crystal clear water.

I only saw two other yakfishers out today. Jay was working the kelp with some sand bass success as I passed him by mid morning. A little while later, Ryan paddled in from somewhere over the horizon. He had been on the water since before dawn and, except for some bait had nothing to show for the day. Thanks for the squid Ryan.

I did not have very high expectations for the fishing part of today's trip. My modest expectations were met. Bait was easy to catch but nothing else. I spent most of my day honing my squid catching skills. The freezer is now stocked.

There were lots of birds, both in the air and on the water. A huge pod of small dolphins raced through the grounds a couple of times. The seals were hovering near by but did not give me any trouble. Unfortunately, I did not see any whales today.

I think I caught my limit of squid eggs. While bouncing a mega bait off the bottom I alternated between snagging egg sacks and mackerel. Never anything bigger however.

I did see one interesting thing. On my peddle out, I floated over a small piece of bull kelp with a cluster of squid eggs attached. This must have broken off near the bottom and floated to the surface. For those who have never seen squid eggs up close and personal, here you go.

Supposedly we have another couple more days of this beautiful weather. I cannot offer much encouragement about the fishing prospects but if you just want to play tourist and enjoy a great day on the water, I highly recommend that you get out soon.
