What your not seeing is that if you run 2 batteries.....6 volt for the bait tank and you won't have to turn it off as it severely restricts the flow of water into your tank. Use the 12 volt battery for your ff. Will run it all day. If you use 1 12volt battery to run both ff and bait tank, then you will have to install an interrupter type switch for the bait tank. Also by using one battery for both, it may not last all day and if something goes wrong and you short it out, you lose both ff and bait tank.

As tacmik said, I constantly run my bait tank, with a 6v 12a you should easily get 10-12 hours of straight run time

I have my PA17 wired up for 12V on all systems. I got a smaller sized 12V motorcycle battery at Walmart for $50 and it runs everything all day. It is small and it fits in the front hatch easily and doesn't weigh that much.
I custom made a 26 gallon bait tank (Holds a full 1/2 scoop of bait) that sits in the middle of the kayak, an Elite 7 Chirp and running lights for those late evening trips.

There is a switch in between my pump and battery. Fish finders mostly have an on/off button so you don't need to run a switch

Running 2 batteries is the preferred method. No need to make it more complicated. Get a waterproof case for battery on or near bait tank, put battery in box, catch bait, hook up battery, run battery all day, unhook battery on the way in.
