I used to almost exclusively fish calicos with swim baits and started making my own years ago. It is pretty simple to, not only make the plastics but the molds as well. Really don't want to sit here and type all the instructions but if you want to give me a call I will be happy to talk you through it.

Is it especially difficult if you want to layer multiple colors?

Not any more difficult than 1 color really.

The only problem with making your own molds if you use Plaster or a similar hard material is you need a release agent to get the tails out if your plastics are soft. RTV Molds are the only way to go on Swimbaits. Allum. for anything else is best.

Not really too bad as long as your plastics are hot so that they blend.
I made my molds out of laminating resin and they worked great.
It just takes a bit of practice to get them right. The nice thing is you just melt down your old torn plastics and use them again.

Hot enough so they dont de-laminate but not too hot as they will mix or will split the colors (if youve ever fished a Split Vein worm thats how its done).
