Rod.
I started fishing at age 5 with a willow pole up in Idaho that I picked out and cut down on my own, through the tutelage of my grandfather. It was maybe 7 feet long, which I added 6 feet of 8lb test, a single split shot, and eagle claw hook. I dug the earth-worms myself. It worked great in the creeks up there. And I started out fishing my grandfather right away, with his fancy push-button Zebco and assortment of artificials.
I view a pole as being all encompassing, whereas a rod might infer a man-made product with guides, handle, etc.

Hmmm...

Maybe if the guys who've spent thousands of hours on the water wrote more superfluous posts---ya' know, guys who know what they're talking about and actually go fishing (Dorado50)---we wouldn't have to rely on the 'know nothing know it all' members so heavily.

Good work, Dave. I like your' style.

It makes no difference to me whether guys prefer to label them as a rod or pole; mine's simply an extension of my arm.
