Expect harassment. Know when you're in the right, and be ready to prove it.

Some of these enviro posse members may deliberately or mistakenly report you're in an MPA when you're in the clear. Record CF numbers and photograph those who interfere, and report them to the DFG.

The Fish and Game Code outlaws “hunter harassment” or interfering with another person who is lawfully hunting, trapping, shooting, fishing or engaging in falconry. The first offense is an infraction; the second offense within a two-year period is a misdemeanor. Interference means any action that physically impedes, hinders, or obstructs the lawful pursuit of any of the above-mentioned activities, including, but not limited to, actions taken for the purpose of frightening away animals from the location where the lawful activity is taking place. I was on the receiving end of this kind of misinformed MPA "enforcement" in the Channel Islands a few years ago. The moment our group landed at Scorpion, we were treated with suspicion and even outward hostility.
