I don't know if those rubber lips are rare or they just don't bite hooks to often. I caught one surf fishing in Baja about 20 years ago and I used to shoot a few off Cardiff reef. Haven't seen one for years though. Nice catch. Mike

That's what it is!
When Amish Ed and I went on Monday i was catching lots of them,but they were a small about 6"-9" I didn't know what they were.i knew they were some kind of perch.i hooked about 20 with sabiki looking for mackerel.
