Take a look at calstar,phenix and seeker, not the cheapest but you cant go wrong.....just dont dropem over the side!

I'll second or third it, forget the levelwind. There are a bunch of rods that will work well. Seekers and CalStars are proven winners and you can't go wrong with them. You can about always find some good used equipment out there. Day at the docks is Sunday. I'm sure there will be plenty to check out. As for a new rod, I was impressed with the new/old Seeker Pinhead series. They have brought back some of thier time proven classic jigsticks. I really liked the D8, they have the Ulus too. Old school turks head and cork tape and they are around $150. Plenty of reels too. New and used as your budget allows. 300 series Newells, Daiwa Sealines, Saltists, or thier new Seagate, Shimano Toriums. They are affordable new and easy to find used. I just picked a new 8' Pro Saber for $4. They deals are out there. Mike
