The longer they are, the more they can vary in weight depending on their thickness. Usually it is most dependent on the thickness of the bottom filets. The link provided is for Pacific Halibut. If the fish was a true DFG 41" (measured with the mouth closed with the tape flat), you are probably looking at high 20s to maybe 30. With the tape wraped over the fish measuring to an open mouth you would probably be 4 -5 pounds less for that size fish.

Congrats on a very successful maiden voyage and a really nice pb flatty!
Greg's info is right on the money. Butts vary in thickness. I've seen some really thick ones and some thin ones so I can't see the length only being that accurate. I would guess yours to be between 25 and 30 pounds. Kinda hard to see how thick it was. Congrats again on a really nice fish. |
