If you are confident in your yak surf skills you can launch from about any beach. But swim areas are off limits though and you are always at the whims of the LGs. I paddled out super early at Fletchers Cove(Solana) and Bucaneer Beach(Oside) and by the time I headed in, around noon, the beach and water were pack and the LGs wouldn't let me land. I had to come in a few hundred yards down the beach. Thankfully I had a good cart. I launched out of Dohenie years ago and after braving the pounding 1' surf I got a lecture from an LG that I was too close to the surfers and that I could lose control of my kayak. It was difficult to stay polite, but I did. I say go for it. Mike
