Fortunately, the spring popped out and hit me in the chest. I saw where it went and was able to retrieve it. I got one of those Reel Maintenance DVDs from Inside Sportfishing at the Fred Hall Show. I wish I had seen that before I took mine apart. The DVD has one of the Shimano techs demonstrating how they service various reels. There are some good tips on the DVD.

Was it a DVD that you purchased or was it a giveaway? I would be very interested in
getting my hands on one.

Inside Sportfishing Reel Maintenance DVD

It is a pretty thorough demonstration of how to perform basic disassembly, cleaning and assembly of several types of Shimano reels. It is a lot easier to figure out than those exploded parts views that come with the reel.

For some instructions on how to service reels look up Alan Tani. He provides step by step instructions complete with pics for servicing many different kinds of reels. His posts can be found on BD and elsewhere.
