When surf landing = yard sale ???

Ok guys, I have a question for the "experienced" yard sale'rs. Typically, what kind of damage/loss of gear have you experienced?

From what I can gather, the philosophy is "tie down anything you want to keep". What happens on the days you figure, "ah, it's small today, no worries.........OPPS!" My biggest concern is snapping my rods, or even worse, losing a few. Since my rig is unorthodoxed, it's handling in the surf is unknown, and I don't have deep cavities to hide my sticks in. I have a couple of ideas for lashing them down, but first I want to know from the vets.

Thanks, Eric

I think your on the cutting edge of launching and landing one of those things in the surf with fishing gear so...I think your going to have to find out!!! Just make sure your gopro is all fired up before you land!

I've paid the price a few times...
Phone stuffed into life jacket pocket and forgotten about...
Sun glasses (on top of my hat) has gotten me 2X...
I just serviced (3) reels that have been dunked a few times (but not lost!) and that was a bit pricey. Sand and salt no bueno for the reels. I now dry bag each and store below.
Floating gaff apparently floated away...

I agree!! It's just common sense. Tie down EVERYTHING until you get the feel of your yacht. Be careful with those ores in the event you roll! Last..... Don't launch or land alone until you get the feel for it. This way someone is there to help you so you don't lose any thing.

Good luck!
Mike

I use to use leashes for everything. No I don't. I just leash my paddle cause that's kinda important.

That said, I have lost a pair of sunglasses from a flip.

I have lost one rod and reel, but that was due to a seal trying to capsize me to steal my catch.

Sadly, I think I'm most worried about my pride. We'll see what happens this weekend, heading out for round two, me vs. YT. I think I'll error on the side of caution and secure everything. If it goes over, I'm sure it will be much more entertaining than a normal yak, think catapult.....

SO, we're showing video of bad launches?
Get over your pride and make a movie.

If you notice nothing was leashed down except my Gopro. I lost my sunglasses though.

My 1st time ever doing a beach launch was also only my 2nd time ever on a kayak. ..4-5 foot surf not sure what I was thinking. Needless to say it ended very bad for me lost 2 rods and reels 3 tackle boxes and about 150 zipties. It was a learning experience and I always seem to learn the hard way.

That was awesome , ah..... I mean, horrible! I like how the cooler went back and forth with the tide as the yak was up on the beach, nice touch.

Oh fun stuff. I've managed to huli a couple times on my old Trident. I haven't lost anything significant at this point: Hats and irons. Lots of irons. Ug, now it's all coming back.

I made it a habit of stuffing all the rods in the kayak, which is something I like about the Cuda (and the tridents). Of course, I've managed to keep the Cuda right side up for the last year. Just need to keep to storing things right, but cause the time I don't, I'll find a way to turtle it....
