A lot of lack of tournaments has come from the folks running them getting out out on the lack of appreciation and help from those fishing them. Little things like saying thanks and helping clean up afterwards. Also to notion that the organizers are making money off the events when they arnt.

OEX right now is planning only to do Benefit events as far as we have been planning. The sponsors appreciate these type of events more and we hope that the anglers will enjoy this more as well.

Our next event will be September 15th in Dana Point and the sponsors are already coming through for us, should be an awesome event with a few kayaks given away including a Red White and Blue Jackson Kayak.

The main thing is that everyone wants to fish tournaments and compete. Problem is there are only a select few out there willing to put the time and effort into throwing tournaments. Plus I have found getting sponsorship isn't th easiest thing to do. Also if you don't have anything really to offer besides the entry fees split up, then it's not going to bring in a very big crowd. 50%-60% of the kayakers I talk to on the water have never heard of some of our forum sites.

Like Wade said, participation is key. Also like Sebler said, the lack of appreciation towards those who do step up and host the tournaments. No matter how many sponsors one may have, there is still time, effort, and money coming out of their own pockets. This is for everyone on here who have had the same "?" In their heads and never spoke out and those who monitor the site and just keep to themselves. It's something to keep in mind if you are a tourney fisherman.

All the fussing, griping, and complaining about the rules and the way thing are set up and ran is a huge turn off as well. That alone will make someone lose interest in hosting. Something to think about.

Only directed to those who have done so.

I host tournaments, yet am guilty of fussing. I did it at home between me and a friend, but still did it.

Although it has previously been said, we all need to come together on a matter like this. There are some people on here who feel the need to puff out their chests and sound like a total badass when truth is, they aren't. On the other end of the spectrum we don't have to wank each other off saying crap like, hey nice 6" bass or killer sanddab. That won't get us anywhere either.

Supporting tournaments like the CKFS is at least a step in the right direction.

Amen to that!!!
Support Wade's tournaments or Jeff's. Help out Patrick or CJ. These guys aren't making jack, just doing it for the love of the sport.

So I think it can be safely said then rather than us all working against each other, let's work with each other and build this community of Kayak fishers back up. I remember reading about, and seeing videos of Kayak tournaments while I was recovering from surgery on my arm. Once I was well enough to enter those tournaments, they stopped happening. I loved the OEX tourneys, I may not have done well in them, but I had fun fishing in them and learning the tournament mind set.

All the BS aside, I'm looking forward to the tournaments, events, and whatever come along to participate in.
