That's an early, 2-hatch Tarpon, the version that was much lower slung and faster than today's. Cool yak. I think you'd definitely want to long, quick kayak like this one.

This is one of those ideas that pops up every few years. I've never seen anyone actually follow through with one exception. A crew from the Hobie factory did it at least once on Adventure Islands. I can't say how much of the time they sailed.

And I agree with CJ; long, coastal trips make for good training. Who's up for a 22-mile trial run?
