I posted on the Malibu scene not long ago. I spearfished it alot, never surface fished. As mentioned Deer Creek is nice, with some spontaneous wicked shore break and heavy rollers( I almost died there). The drop off is similar to that of the Shelter Island launch (not as steep but close). The kelp there is all built on structure, compact in comparison but enough to hold fish. Leo is a dope spot too and significantly under fished. You'll see more spearos, surf boards, and shore fisherman out there than yaks. Plenty of kelp to work too. I've seen mentionable leopards, angels, flatties, and some WSB here. Fishing will pick up here in SD before it does there though. And you'll be too busy creaming over your YT you caught to worry about hooking up on a double chuck up north. YT or Rockfish??? It's your freezer.
