Its do-able but like others said, its a long way. Watch for the mlpa zones. Most of my trips out the mouth of the bay have been to surf. Here's a tip for you, time the tides in the direction you want to go. Seriously, a knot or 3 moving against you makes a long paddle/peddle a looooong one. Mike

Another option to fish the kelp, is heading out from Mission Bay. Once you leave the bay you can head south just past the OB Pier and fish the kelp there. I think it would be a lot shorter paddle to fish some kelp than from the San Diego Bay.

X2 made that Same trip and it was a lot quicker. Especially riding the tide back to the mouth
