Bugs that big are very strong, speaking from personal experience.

I agree with one of the previous posts.
Very cool of him to release it. If it has better survival instincts embedded in his DNA, think of all the future "BIG" offspring he could produce

That's also one of the reasons I can't bring myself to bring home a Calico over 7#'s, usually release most "Homeguard"

and why I practice C & R with native Trout/Steelhead!
