Can you guys recommend which of the Seeker Rods they have on sale would be a good starter rod for fishing live bait in La Jolla with the goal of targeting YT and Halibut?

For YT, you may want to fish up to 40# line. Halibut really depends on the bite, and at times, you may want to fish light line. So, more times than not, one rod/set-up, just won't cover all the fishing situations you may encounter. However, for starters, if your starting out, I'd go with a 30 and 40 pound set-up, one of each. If you have a finicky bite, change out the top-shot on the 30# rig, dropping down to 20, then 15 in necessary... If your looking for one 40# rig, for now, I'd go with a pinhead D-8, it's rated 25-50, but they fish 40# really well. But, you do not need an 8' rod for live bait. Keep in mind, that I have not been to Sport Chalet, so I don't know what models are on sale

anyone know which model this rod is, its labeled as 20lb, but if its 12-20 or 20-30 makes a bit of difference.

I just bought one online today... 50% off, plus an additional 20% off for the Cyber Monday code, plus I added a few smaller items to bring the order over $100 and got an additional 15% off the total order... Ended up paying $63.56 for the 7' 20# rod PLUS a $25 cash card thrown in for free.. Killer deal!

I just did the same thing; nice call Alanw!

Ymeff. I bit the bullet and took a chance on Iceman's recommendation. Whats the worst that can happen I catch a few more fish lol. I've seen Iceman's posts and he knows fishing.

I am definitely glad I waited until today. I picked up three Coleman Airbeds which were already marked down 50% further reduced by 15% with a $25 gift card thrown in which by my math makes them free or near enough free to get them approved by the finance committee.

Just out of curiosity what type of line would you spool on a reel to compliment this rod when fishing live bait in La Jolla?

Seeker Stealth 7" Live Bait Casting Rod.

With some luck I'll pickup an Avet SX in the next few months, but in the meantime I plan on using an Abu Garcia 6500 ambassadeur with this rod to get a feel for it. I've recently become a convert to braid after an unused reel was passed down to me. Any recommendation on braid by brand name and line rating?

Just curious if any of you received the rods that you ordered? I received all of the items I ordered except the rod. I am wondering if they oversold these on Cyber Monday.

I don't know about those that ordered them but I doubt that Sport Chalet over sold. I was at the store in point loma today picking up some lead heads and they still have two 7' seeker stealths left at the sale price.

Talked to the guy at sports chalet today and he said they will no longer be carrying seeker due to a changes higher up in the company. He said they will be getting new brands and products in but he has no idea which ones. I picked up their last pinhead 7' 15-30. They Let me stack my military discount on top of the 50% walked out the door with it for under 80. He also said That the ones they sold online were being pulled from stores inventories.
